Fake a Vintage Photo

One of my favorite blogs, A Beautiful Mess, posted a technique on How to Fake a TTV Photo. Ever since, I've been searching for a box camera with a waist level view finder. I found one on our Michigan Trip, but it was way too expensive for me. I finally found one during our flea market trip on Wednesday for a big 3 bucks! Woo! 

Basically, you point your digital camera down into the view finder of the vintage camera. I had a little problem with my photos being blurry, but I suppose that comes with practice. Love the final result!

Instax Photos of Michigan

I finally had a reason to bust out my Instax camera last month when Jake and I took a vacation to Michigan. Between Lake Michigan, vintage fudge shops, and tulips, our travels gave me plenty to shoot. I really liked how they turned out. They remind me of the photos I found in a shoebox of my parents when they were younger.

Photo Tree Display

As you may have read, I recently bought an Instax instant camera. I wanted a creative way to display the pictures that didn't require a frame so that you can tell they were instant photos. I looked no further than our wedding reception centerpieces for an idea. 

I cut down a limb from a willow tree in my grandparents' backyard (much like the ones used at our wedding) and planted it into an over sized mason jar. The branch was too heavy for the container, so I filled it with all of the loose change Jake and I had sitting around to hold the branch in place. If it wasn't in the middle of winter, I would have probably gone outside to find rocks to fill the jar with.

I had some leftover twine from the wedding as well, so I just tied it to random branches and taped the twine to the back of the pictures.

Instax

I decided to pool my Christmas money together to buy myself a camera I've been looking at for quite a while. The Fujifilm Instax is an instant camera that shoots out pictures about the size of an old Polaroid (if you have a Polaroid camera, there's a really neat company called The Impossible Project that is still producing the film, but it's pretty pricey). I've wanted an instant camera like this ever since I was little. I did have a cheapie at one point that printed out super-tiny pictures, if you count that. I'm excited to get in the habit of using this camera regularly, plus I have a fun way of displaying them that I'll hopefully be able to share soon!
