Jungle Jim's Adventures

Jake and I went on a snowy adventure to Jungle Jim's on Friday. We hadn't made the trip since summer, so we were past due for some food exploring. We even found a hidden section of kitchen gadgets we'd never seen before. I really think that I could spend an entire day there and still find new things the next time I went.

Jungle Jim's world-famous bathroom (promise, it's nicer than it looks!)
I would really love to go to cooking school here.

 Quail eggs, anyone?

Huitlacoche: Diseased corn. Quite the delicacy in Mexico!

No Heat Curls

Remember my Headband Hair Roll from a few days ago?

Well, I found another use for it! Basically, use the same technique, sleep on it overnight, and take your hair out of the headband in the morning, it will make your hair nice and curly. I tried this last night and it really does work. It cut my "hair time" in the morning in half.

Check out The Paper Mama's blog for a video tutorial of the technique!

A little browsing

After school today I headed down the street to The Book Shelf- a cute little used bookstore in Batesville. I didn't really have anything in mind...I just enjoyed browsing the shelves for a little bit. I always leave spaces like that really inspired to read or get creative with something. Plus, I think it's good to go on little adventures by yourself from time to time, don't you think?

Headband Hair Roll

My good teacher friend Staci (check out her teacher blog- it's adorable!) saw me with this hairstyle one day at school and asked how I did it. I thought I'd share it here, too. I found this style in another blog, but she didn't really go step by step on how to create it, so I just figured it out on my own.

Headband Hair Roll

Grab a stretchy headband of your choice.

Wear it like you're a hippie, with the band over your hair instead of under it.

Take the front section of hair in your hand.

Tuck this hair inside your headband,

Grab the next section of hair.

Tuck this section inside the headband as well.

Continue grabbing sections of hair until you have all of your hair tucked in.

Use a mirror to tuck in any extra pieces or sections that are falling out. I usually have to tuck in my hair a little more than I did initially to get the look I'm going for. If your hair is shorter, you'll probably need a few bobby pins.

You're all done!

Confession: My hair was extremely dirty when I did this. Here's another option besides a ponytail...or a hat, in my case sometimes. :)

Dinner Date

January marks Jake and I's fourth anniversary of dating. Each year we go to Bonge's, one of our favorite restaurants outside of Anderson. It's a little pricey, but the food and atmosphere are great. I got a chicken and crab dish and Jake ordered skate wing, better known as sting ray! Yep, sting ray. We haven't had a legit date night in a while, and this one was pretty great.

Guest Room Makeover

We made one of our extra rooms upstairs into a guest bedroom when we first moved into our house in Morristown. Well, after the wedding I found that I had developed a new hobby: crafting. I've accumulated quite a stash of yarn, felt, glue guns, etc. with nowhere to store them. I got the idea to set up a little crafting nook in our extra bedroom. Jake has his "man cave" downstairs, so it's only right that I have a "women cave". Doesn't really have the same ring to it, but you get it.

One of my goals in the upcoming months is to start crafting/creating things more often. I really enjoy gifting the finished products to friends and family, plus it just make me happy to get creative with something that is simply for fun, not for work or something else I'm obligated to do. It's a nice outlet.

Before...

...and after.
